Are you going to breastfeed in that?

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

This is the day we celebrate LOVE and affection by exchanging gifts, flowers and cards. And sexy intimate underthings are usually popular gifts around this time of the year…even for preggo and breastfeeding mamas. Oh YES! I can personally attest to this as we have been our busiest EVER during these last two weeks:) …LOL, I am sure our NBC’s Today Show feature also had a lot to do with it too :-)

But why not? All the sacrifice and hard work of carrying a baby for 9 months, gaining weight, giving up some of our favorites foods and drinks, lack of sleep….I mean the list goes on and on.  Preggo and breastfeeding moms want to look and feel sexy too… and dammit they deserve to!

When Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda made the “That is very disturbing” and “Are women going to breastfeed in that?” comment during our Sexy Valentine’s Gifts feature on the Today Show, it made me realize even more so that You! Lingerie is doing its part to not only change the way pregnant/breastfeeding moms feel about their bodies and their self-esteem, but also the way in which society views them.

Being pregnant or breastfeeding does not mean you can no longer be sexy or feel beautiful. We passionately believe you should embrace your new body, and thus discover new ways of being sexy and feeling confident and good about yourself. We are excited to share these wonderful new products with the world and hope to inspire a new appreciation for and acceptance of a woman’s body in pregnant form. And it begins with you and I embracing this revolution, and sharing our knowledge with others.

Bittersweet

This was a hard blog post to write even though so many wonderful things have happened these last few weeks…we are getting solid online sales, we added a few new wholesale customers, we finally got our inventory shipment after a very long wait and started shipping to our online customers and wholesale customers. Whooohoooo!!! We had a launch event on Zulily which was a rousing success and a great way for us to build brand awareness and we even got written about on The Stir! I mean, it has just been AMAZING. The most amazing news though was that i found that the day we got back from Las Vegas that my little girl was going to be a big sister…How exciting that was for me and my family and a great wrap up to our launch!!! I was pregnant again with baby #2 and i was SOOOO looking forward to all the wonderful feelings of pregnancy, a growing belly, my new world as a mompreneur and even rocking my own collection:) It was perfect!

Last week i was officially 8 weeks pregnant and was counting down the days until we could share the wonderful news with all our friends and extended family. I was going to be a mommy again! It would be perfect and i would no longer need to fake drinking my wine when hanging out with friends or lie about why i could not hang out late because i was dead tired as is expected in the first trimester …Until that dreadful monday when i went in to get my routine checkup. All of the baby’s measurements were great and i was feeling great too until the doctors happy face turned into one of concern and needing to double check with another doctor…

“It’s strange but I don’t see a heartbeat, I’m so sorry!”…those awful words still play in my head over and over again, even right this moment. I cry every time i remember it. It was the hardest thing to hear and have to live with. My world was crashing! How was that even possible? But i felt fine, the baby seemed fine, just how??? My heart sank. How would i explain to my little girl who is 22 months that there is no longer a baby in mommy’s belly? Was it something i did or did not do? Was it stress related? Was i too caught up with You! Lingerie and growing the business that i neglected myself and the baby? Did i not drink enough water or eat right or sleep enough? A million questions ran through me as i tried to get answers from my OBGYN. And even though the doctors say that there was nothing i did wrong or could have done to prevent this, i still couldn’t help myself. I went back to the doctors a few days later to double and triple check that there hadn’t been any mistakes but it was still the same bad news.

I am sad and heartbroken!!! I have cried for days now! And words cannot even describe the loss i feel.

But i am still grateful and thankful for all the wonderful blessings i have. My beautiful daughter who inspired me to start this journey, my supportive husband who is my rock and my family who continue to encourage me. And i have faith that everything will be alright… And I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason even when it is hard for us to see and understand it (because i still don’t understand it). So as hard as this is to share with you all, i hope that my story will touch and inspire someone in a positive way to be hopeful and trust God (or whatever higher power you believe in).

I hope that someday soon, i can get over this.

Decoding nursing bras: Top 7 things to look for in great nursing bras!!

If you were like me, when i went shopping for my first nursing bra, it was all one GIANT guessing game on what were the best options. So what is a good nursing bra anyway???? I know lots of women who are unsure about what to look for in a good nursing bra… so they typically go through several nursing bra purchases doing trial and error before they might eventually land THE ONE, if they are lucky! Honestly i don’t understand why this is the case (but sadly, it is) because the same regular mainstream bra rules should apply to nursing bras, well maybe with a few tweaks, right?

So here are some helpful tips to help you decode the encryption of good nursing bras.  HAHA:) Oh, and remember to wait until the final weeks of your pregnancy before you purchase your nursing bras. One mistake many expectant mommies make is that they purchase their nursing bras too early and a little big, with room to grow….well, this makes sense intuitively but you will only end up with a nursing bra that fits you poorly and gives you problems! So here it goes:

DeCode #1.

SUPPORT = COMFORT! The most important factor in a good maternity/nursing bra is the how well it provides proper support to the breast. The “drop” cup should provide adequate support and lift to the breasts while giving a good separation.

DeCode #2.

Look for a bra that provides easy access to the breast so that you can feed your hungry baby easily.

DeCode #3.

Look for a bra with that provides one-hand cup openings even when you are holding your baby. Chances are you will be holding your baby with your other hand:)

DeCode #4.

Look for a bra with wide straps for more comfort because it will help evenly distribute your breasts weight.

DeCode #5.

Look for bras with cups that are lined with 100 percent cotton because it allows air through to keep nipples and breast dry. An added benefit is also for comfort, which you will appreciate!

DeCode #6.

Fit, fit , fit!!!! Ensure that the band of the bra fits you well on its widest setting because after the birth, your band size will begin to decrease as your rib cage decreases. So you will need to be able to comfortably re-adjust the band to the closer settings.

DeCode #7.

Choose a bra with a four or more back hook closure because they give you the most flexibility in fit.

I hope these tips will allow you expectant and nursing mommies to have more confidence as you go out shopping for your nursing bras. I mean I wish I had them for myself 2 years ago when I had my daughter… It would have saved me the unnecessary multiple trips.

Happy nursing bra shopping!!!
